Indian Tacos
Description:
As their name may suggest, Indian Tacos, also known as Navajo Tacos, are a fusion between Native American and Mexican cuisine. Despite having originated in the American Southwest, this dish is now widely popular throughout much of the Western United States.
Ingredients:
1 piece of frybread (see recipe)
Meat
1/4 lb ground beef (115 g)
1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (7 ml)
1/2 tsp cumin (3 g)
1/2 paprika (3 g)
1/2 tsp chili powder (3 g)
1/2 tsp garlic powder (3 g)
1/2 chili flakes (3 g)
Salt & pepper
Toppings
Shredded lettuce
Shredded cheddar cheese
Diced tomatoes
Canned pinto beans
Tabasco sauce
Sour cream
Preparation:
Heat a pan over medium high heat and add the ground bison, breaking it up with a spoon. Add the spices and season to taste with salt & pepper. To assemble, top the frybread with the bison, pinto beans, tabasco, cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream.
Notes:
To keep true with the local ingredients of the region, you could also use bison or other wild game meat as a substitute for the beef.
