Fried Oysters

Description:

Fried oysters can be made in a variety of preparations, sometimes battered, coated in bread crumbs or coated with a flour mixture as in this recipe. This dish is enjoyed throughout the United States, most commonly in coastal areas where oysters are plentiful.

Ingredients:

  • 20-24 shucked oysters

  • 1/2 cup finely-ground cornmeal (60 g)

  • 1/2 cup AP flour (60 g)

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (120 ml)

  • 2 cups vegetable oil (480 ml)

  • Salt

Preparation:

In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal & flour. In a separate bowl, combine the oysters and buttermilk.

Add the oil to a pot and heat to 375 degrees.
