Bacon, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich

Description:

It is not clear where the bacon egg & cheese breakfast sandwich originated, but some believe that it may have been born during the industrial revolution in England to offer the working class a cheap and convenient meal. Given the popularity of bagels and American cheese in the US, these ingredients made their way into being a key component of this sandwich in America.

Ingredients:

  • 1 plain bagel cut in half (see recipe)

  • 2 strips bacon

  • 1 egg

  • 1 slice American cheese

  • 1 tsp vegetable oil

  • Salt & pepper

Preparation:

Toast bagel until golden brown. In a non-stick pan, cook bacon on medium heat until crispy and remove. Heat pan over medium heat and add the oil and the egg, making sure to break the yolk. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cook egg on each side for 1-2 minutes, and top with the American cheese after flipping the egg. Place the egg and bacon on the bagel halves and optionally cut down the middle to serve.

Notes:

  • American cheese is most commonly used for a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich, but cheddar is also a good substitute.
